14th Brunel International Lecture Series: Europe
20 March @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm GMT

Join ICSI in partnership with ICE as we host the European region lecture, the third instalment of the 14th Brunel International Lecture Series.
Despite the differences across European countries, the region shares several challenges. Not least the interdependencies of critical infrastructure, recognised by the EU in the recently published Critical Infrastructure Directive.
As nations strive for sustainability – whilst ensuring that their infrastructure is future-proofed and is fit for people and planet – challenges posed by ageing infrastructure, rising costs of energy, and the effects of climate change, among others, are seeing the evolution of new ideas and ways of working.
This lecture will investigate opportunities, challenges, and case studies of implementing equitable, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure specific to the Europe region, and how the global engineering community can work with others to address any barriers to success.
The opening lecture in September 2022 saw keynote speeches from Dr Joshua Macabuag, catastrophe modelling consultant and Abhilash Panda, Head of Financing Prevention, De-risking investment & Infrastructure Resilience at UNDRR. The Africa lecture in November 2022 featured an insightful talk from Vera Bukachi, an African urban development expert. Both lectures are available to watch on demand.
