Nature-Positive Engineering Roundtable Series: Rio de Janeiro

6 February, 2025 All day

This quarter, ICSI continued our global series of Nature-Positive Engineering roundtables in London, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore, bringing together experts from organisations in the engineering sector, including port owner-operators, energy companies, policymakers, academia, civil society, financiers and many more.

These sessions brought together an extraordinary mix of voices, from offshore renewable specialists and resilient port operators to coastal management specialists and local authorities, to explore what nature-positive infrastructure looks like in practice. Their insights will directly shape our forthcoming NPE Foresight Review, set to launch next quarter – we can’t wait to share it with you.

Our second roundtable took place in Rio de Janeiro on 6 February, in partnership with the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability of Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions and #RacetoResilience for a lively and solutions-focused roundtable. Against the backdrop of Brazil’s upcoming elections and the road to COP30, participants explored how nature-positive approaches can be integrated into ports, shipping, and coastal protection. The conversations spanned cutting-edge materials and innovation in port infrastructure, the evolving policy and regulatory landscape, and the critical role of finance in scaling nature-based solutions.
