Building on ICSI’s position paper, Understanding the landscape of the global engineering capacity and capability, this report explores the role of academia in preparing future engineers with the knowledge, skills and mindsets required for addressing today’s pressing climate and sustainability challenges. To explore the forefront of this transition, ICSI established the Transforming Engineering Education Learning Hub, a virtual learning hub designed to catalyse the inclusion of these topics in engineering higher education. Over three months, the Hub convened fortnightly sessions that fostered discussion and shared learnings about effective approaches to equipping graduate engineers for their careers in the 21st Century.
This paper explores key insights from the series and presents a pathway for transformation in engineering education, offering a vision for how engineers could be equipped with the knowledge, competencies, skills, and mindsets needed to address the complex challenges inherent in shaping and delivering infrastructure and built environment.
