The origins of ICSI

From the Resilience Shift programme to Resilience Rising and into the future

ICSI was established in 2019 through Resilience Rising’s predecessor, The Resilience Shift, a 5-year programme supported by Lloyd’s Register Foundation and hosted by Arup. This effort led to a signed declaration to advance a ‘Coalition for Sustainable Infrastructure,’ with the objective of understanding the biggest barriers to infrastructure, climate adaptation, and resilience, and positioning the engineering community as a catalyst for action.

Incubated by Resilience Rising, ICSI focused on pioneering efforts to embed resilience into infrastructure projects worldwide. Key achievements included collaborative projects, research, and the development of best practices that laid the groundwork for future resilience initiatives.

Today, ICSI stands as an independent organisation, continuing the vital work initiated by The Resilience Shift and advanced by Resilience Rising. The urgency of embedding resilience into infrastructure remains paramount, and we are committed to working with partners worldwide to drive progress in climate adaptation and resilience.
